Civil society briefing session  to promote safe migration and ethical recruitment

14 janvier 2019

civil society briefing session being organized by the United Nations Migration Agency to promote safe migration and ethical recruitment on Monday, January 14, 2019, at the International Women of Saskatoon | Unit 301-336 5th Avenue North Saskatoon [Elevator #2; Education/Training Room] from 1:00pm – 3:00pm.

SAISIA's first involvement with the United Nations Migration Agency regarding the above-mentioned initiative was in the month of October 2018 during an initial focus group meeting in Saskatoon, facilitated by the representatives of the International Organization for Migration, Department of Migration Management.

The purpose of the briefing session is to discuss the United Nations Migration Agency three-year pilot project in Saskatchewan. We will discuss conditions related to labour migration and employment in the province, livelihood and integration challenges, the pre-conditions for success in migration and work, and the protections and services migrants need to experience safe migration.

The organizers plan an interactive discussion to learn from SAISIA members and their clients. This learning will in turn shape project implementation, which will involve community groups, regulators and employers to build safe migration corridors between countries of origin and provinces in Canada. The project is being implemented in Saskatchewan and Alberta, with a consultation planned with community groups in Edmonton taking place shortly after the Saskatoon briefing session. Future briefings and project engagement with SAISIA and its members are envisioned throughout the year and the three-year life of the project.

Interested agencies, primarily those offering employment services, should please RSVP to anthony.olusola@saisia.ca by Friday, January 11, 2019, before the close of business. For those residing outside of Saskatoon but would like to participate and bring their perspective forward, a conference call option may be arranged.

PLEASE NOTE: The organizers prefer to have at the event 2 delegates (1 agency staff i.e. Employment Services Manager or Counsellor and 1 Employment Program client) per participating agency.
